Swimmers diving into the action, cheered on by a magnetic crowd: is there a better sight or sound on race days?

This year’s long-awaited Splash Champions swimming carnival has returned to Swan Hill Aquatic and Recreation Centre (SHARC) for the second year running. The SHARC team designed this annual swimming carnival in direct collaboration with the community following a Community Network Forum held at the venue which highlighted ways to best serve attendees with diverse needs.

The successful event was considered a triumph, made possible by a collaborative effort by disability service providers Are Able, Axis Employment, Echuca Discoveries & Swan Hill Discoveries, Swan Hill College Sport & Recreation students, community volunteers and the dedicated team at the venue.

The Sharks swim team from Swan Hill Discoveries claimed the top spot for the second year running, proudly taking home the coveted shield.

But the day was more about connection than competition. The pool was alive with laughter, cheers and high-fives as swimmers gave it their all in races tailored to suit a wide range of abilities. The Sharks and Tigers swim teams, as well as individual swimmers from Swan Hill Discoveries and Echuca Discoveries were celebrated.

Swan Hill College Sport & Recreation students played a key role as timekeepers, with swimmers’ times officially recorded for the upcoming Tri State Games in Portland on 9–14 November 2025.

Delia Baber, Community Engagement and Inclusion Coordinator at SHARC said:

“It was wonderful seeing everyone enjoy their swimming events, cheer for their team and make new friends. This event brings enthusiastic swimmers of all abilities to our venue across Swan Hill and Echuca, increasing and celebrating inclusion.”

With novelty events and a strong spirit of inclusion, the carnival was a joyful celebration of courage, care and the love of sport. Ribbons, certificates and goodie bags were handed out to swimmers at the conclusion of the event.

Excitement is already building for the 2026 Swimming Carnival, which promises to be an even bigger and better celebration. The Swan Hill Aquatic and Recreation Centre is buzzing with anticipation and the community can’t wait to dive back in.
